Tamia Marilyn Washington Hill (born May 9, 1975) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Tamia performed in various singing and dancing competitions as a child. In 1994, after signing a development deal with Warner Bros. Records, she was asked by veteran producer Quincy Jones to appear on his album Q's Jook Joint (1995), earning her Grammy Award nominations for their collaboration on "You Put a Move on My Heart" and "Slow Jams".[1] Her self-titled debut album was released in 1998 and followed by a series of success

Tamia Washington was born in Windsor, Ontario on May 9, 1975. From an early age she was exposed to diverse music by her parents. She sang on the stage at church at 6 years old and by the age of 12 she was studying piano and performing in community musicals.  Tamia graduated from the Arts program at Walkerville High School (Walkerville Collegiate Institute). She made several appearances in local theater and choral concerts before winning Canada’s prestigious YTV Vocal Achievement Award in 1993 and Steve Ross Music Scholarship at the American Academy of Achievement’s Annual Salute to excellence in 1994. Quincy Jones took note of her talent during her performance, and offered her the opportunity to work on his album. This collaboration resulted in 4 Grammy nominations.

In 1998 Tamia released her debut CD “Tamia” and has released 6 albums since then. She made her acting debut in Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997), followed by appearances on TV sitcoms: Rock me Baby and Kenen &Kel.   Tamia has worked with some of the musi
