I first met Gloria in a small church in Southern California. I was on tour with my college choir. She bounced in radiating energy and good will. And took the time to talk to some of us personally.
When I think of Gloria Roe, I think of So Great Salvation. It’s a wonderful song, and she’s a delightful person. Gloria is a talented musician and songwriter. She started playing the piano when very young and is still at it.

Gloria Ann Kliewer Roe proceeded us into heaven on January 20, 2017. Her songs and example live on. She was best known as a pianist (debuting at Carnegie Hall at age 11) and as singer-songwriter. The one I remember most was So Great Salvation. And for her kindness to me in a little church in S. Cal.

Early on Gloria’s family instilled in her the drive to put people first, no matter the cost. Growing up, Gloria remembers sleeping in the hallway of their family home, instead of her bedroom, to avoid gunshots from the KKK. The Klan terrorized her family because Gloria’s Dad, an FBI Special Agent, had the courage to investigate their wickedness in the Deep South and bring members of the KKK to justice.
A special education teacher of 27 years, Gloria was fed up with elected officials attacking the rights of public school students and teachers. After the legislature took away a teacher’s seat at the table, she decided to run for the Tennessee House in Knoxville in 2012 — she won and has been fighting to hold extreme politicians and special interests accountable ever since.
This year, when a murderer stole the lives of three 9-year-olds and three adults in a mass school shooting in Tennessee, Gloria once again stood tall for victims of injustice. As a member of the “Tennessee Three” she demanded Republican politicians in Nashville stop with the BS and pass gun safety measure

Roy Eugene Roe (affectionately called "Poppy" by his grandchildren) peacefully went home to Jesus on August 24, 2022, at age 92. Roy was born to Joseph Dorsey Roe and Alma Birdeen Roe (James) on November 29, 1929, in Missouri.
He served in the US Navy from November 1948 to November 1952 in San Diego. He worked for the San Jose Mercury News for 35 years as a printer. Roy met his wife, Joyce Joan Johnston in 1967 at First Baptist Church in San Jose, California. They married February 24, 1968, and have two daughters, Lisa Diane (Roe) Hotchkiss and Gloria Jean (Roe) Goebel. Roy and Joyce lived in San Jose, California, until 2003 and then moved to Oregon City, Oregon, to be near their daughters and grandchildren. In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, Roy also loved his four granddaughters and had a deep abiding love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sister Biz (Roe) Jaeger.
