Haute Couture - Spring/S He put me in a seashell bustier with white baggy jeans, and suddenly I was doing my first show for ck, Spring 1993, which also happened to be Kate Moss’s first show. We walked the runway together as a pair and from this show, Calvin created the waifs. A few days later, I walked in the Calvin Klein Collection show which also started the careers of Shalom [Harlow] and Amber [Valletta]. Carolyn Bessette was then in Calvin’s PR department and she took me on like a younger sister, and whisked me off to a whole series of Calvin Klein events. So Calvin’s vision launched me. Steven Meisel was in the audience of that Collection show and called me in to shoot a Dolce & Gabbana campaign, and my career took flight. Calvin’s clothes were super chic, sexy, effortlessly simple, and made with precision. He created an iconic American style and everything he designed felt like a T-shirt, like breathing in your skin. Calvin, the person, is very sexy, modern, laser-sharp; a stand-alone genius and bold risk-taker. Towards me, he was always warm, sweet, and fatherly. I became Calvin’s main looks m “Have you ever loved somebody who used to get the party poppin’? We used to party-hop, we used to be in the Hamptons, party a lot. We was The Breakfast Club, you was a part of the Roc…” Jay-Z, Hype Williams, Natane Adcock, Dame Dash, Puff Daddy and Aaliyah, photographed at Puff’s annual Fourth of July weekend BBQ and party at his property in East Hampton on July 2, 2000. Since 1997 the Roc-A-Fella Records family had been renting mansions—which often came with a $30,000-a-week rent tag—and hosting a Summer-long soirée. for their family and friends. Puff also organized many festivities during the Summer months, and a raft of must-attend parties were spread between the two properties. There was also an annual Roc-A-Fella Records vs. Bad Boy Records softball game. Being a longtime friend of Jay meant that Baby Girl was of course always invited out to the Roc’s summer house.
