Venerable Master Chin Kung spent thirteen years studying the classics, history, philosophy, and Buddhism under the guidance of Professor Fang Dongmei, a great philosopher of his time; Zhangjia Living Buddha, an eminent monk of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition; and Mr. Li Bingnan, a lay practitioner and master of Buddhism.
In 1953, after winning recognition from Professor Fang Dongmei, Master Chin Kung started to learn philosophy from Prof. Fang. When introducing the philosophy of the Buddhist sutras, Prof. Fang said, “The Buddha was a great philosopher, a great sage. Buddhist sutras contain a higher degree of philosophy, and learning Buddhism is the greatest enjoyment in life.” Professor Fang’s comments attracted Master Chin Kung who began studying Buddhism.
After one month, recommended by Mr. Ming Mengjing, Master Chin Kung started to learn Buddhism from Zhangjia Living Buddha. This study continued for three years until the great master’s death. The First Memorial Anniversary of Most Venerable Grand Master Chin Kung
During 21-23 July B.E. 2566 (2023) the Association of Master Chin Kung’s Friends at UNESCO, the Academy Sinology of UK, Pure Land Learning College Association, the Hong Kong Buddhist Foundation, the Hwadzan Pure Land Association, the Temple of Ultimate Bliss of Tainan, and the Tainan Pure Land Learning Center co-organized the First Memorial Anniversary of Most Venerable Grand Master Chin Kung at Tainan ICC Center, Chinese Taipei. Most Venerable Grand Master Chin Kung passed away on 26 July B.E. 2565 (2022). Throughout his life, Most Venerable had dedicated and committed to the peace, harmony, and happiness of mankind. He had promoted religious unity, restored religious education and traditional culture by initiating, organizing, and participating in interfaith forums around the world. Chin KungAM (淨空; pinyin: Jìngkōng; 13 March 1927 – 26 July 2022)[1] was a Chinese Buddhistmonk and scholar from the Mahayana tradition. He was the founder of the Corporate Body of the Buddha Educational Foundation, an organization based on the teachings of Pure Land Buddhism. He was known for his teaching of Pure Land Buddhism and work in promoting inter-faith harmony in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
